Hi!
I’m May, an Afropean (Ugandan raised in Denmark), a dance of cultures - from Uganda to South Africa to Denmark, with smaller life chapters unfolding in Germany, France, Brazil, Portugal, and Spain. A little nomadic at heart and endlessly captivated by how vast (and beautiful) the world is and how each place can shape us and teach us more about our shared world and each other.
As a creative, writer, holistic decolonial wellness guide/coach, my work flows from a deep commitment to intersectional healing and personal liberation. Through my journey, I’ve come to believe that blooming wildly in this messy, beautiful world starts from within: through self-acceptance, authenticity, and the courage to live as our fullest selves.
Here, on this Substack, I share my field-notes on holistic living; spanning personal decolonization, womanism, intuitive living, black consciousness - spirituality, as well as compassionate personal growth. These are the passions that light up my soul, woven with reflections on how we can gently navigate the messy in-between spaces of life. If you are more visual and would like to see my efforts in pursuit of this way of life, you can also visit my youtube channel May in Bloom.
My philosophy? Gentle progress over perfection.
I’m endlessly curious about the ways we can live in harmony with ourselves, our truths, our shared communities, and the world around us; nurturing joy, beauty, and soft rebellions along the way.
Think of me as your short big sister from the internet, rooting for you to bloom wildly with whatever you have, wherever you are.
With love, light, and courage,
May 🌿
P.S. If you’d like to read more of my own journey towards self-discovery and liberation, my book In Constant Bloom might speak to you.
